UFC/MMA March 8

• Well, the UFC has officially announced Kimbo Slice v. Matt Mitrione for UFC 113 so Kimbo will not be fighting James Toney. That may be for the best though.

• The fighter who made the most at WEC 47 was Joseph Benavidez who pocketed $29,000 and opponent Miguel Torres taking home $26,000.

• Former IFL fighter Claude Patrick has signed with UFC. Patrick is a welterweight which is one of the deepest weight classes.

• UFC fighter Rich Franklin will be appearing for the thirty-sixth annual Town Fair Tire World of Wheels from March 12-14 in Boston at the Bayside Expo Center.

• I have a photo of Miguel Torres cut forehead at the bottom of the report. Please be advised it is graphic and not for the weak of heart…or stomach.

• James Toney said that UFC is more about hand-to-hand combat than anything else and that he has trained little in the other disciplines of MMA.

• Canadian fighter John Alessio is trying hard to be part of UFC 115 in Vancouver. Good luck to you son…

• Bellator Fighting Championships have signed featherweight and welterweight fighters Janne Tulirinta and Chad Hinton, respectively.

• Jake Shields has come out publicly against having Jose Canseco on the Strikeforce roster even if just for one fight. Shields said Canseco is “not someone I want in my life.”

• Marcus Jones is the second to be declared as a bonus fighter on UFC Undisputed 2010 video game. I think I will buy the game and create a fighter with a rather unique name, say, Jerry “The Worm” and just pummel James McSweeney over and over and over. I think that may be the only match I do for at least six months to overcome some kind of primal need to see that guy get killed. I may make my beautiful wife play the role of McSweeney so I can just beat his ass.

• Fedor’s management has said that they expect the top heavyweight to be back in the cage by summer but against who and for whom, they have yet to divulge. Sources close to the fighter have said there is an outside chance he will end up in the UFC before ever having stepped into the cage for StrikeForce.

• Allistar Overeem v. Brett Rogers is set for Strikeforce on April 17. This has the potential to be a great fight if they both show up.

• UFC on March 27 and WWE WrestleMania on March 28 as well as ROH in Phoenix and a lot going on and I am torn on what I want to purchase. My last cable bill was $315 and as a lowly UFC/MMA reporter and a low paid wrestling news reported for The Examiner and a non-paid yet reporter and features writer for the upcoming LateralPress website, I just do not know what to do. My beautiful wife would like to watch WrestleMania because she is an uber mark for the Undertaker so she may cast the deciding vote although I have my baby daughter Summer Skye who is going to be my little MMA fighter and I might be able to convince her to get the UFC PPV. If push comes to shove I will just make one of my kids empty their piggy banks so we can get both.

• As always I am Jerry Wiseman…and then the cage door closes.
