UFC/MMA News February 8

  • Nate Marquardt has said he wants to face Anderson Silva for the middleweight title.
  • Dan Henderson and Tyron Woodley have been added to the line-up for EA Sports: MMA. EA Sports says more names will be added soon.
  • Brock Lesnar will grace the cover of “UFC Undisputed 2010.”
  • I will have an interview with MMA fighter and Ohio native Jon Craig up soon.
  • As expected Wisconsin has officially sanctioned MMA in the state.
  • Indiana based MMA Big Show will present a show at the Belterra Casino on February 20. UFC veteran and Hoosier native Jake O’Brien will battle Dave Hess in a heavyweight bout where the winner will battle for the title later. You can learn more at www.mmabigshow.com
  • Former WEC middleweight Bryan Baker has signed with Bellator.
  • More on Brock Lesnar, he may fight in late June or July, possibly July 3 or almost a year since his fight with Frank Mir.
  • UFC president Dana White said if the upcoming UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi goes well, he may move The Ultimate Fighter to the middle east for a more “international flavor.”
  • Former Pride star Hidehiko Yoshida announced his final fight will be on April 25 for a group called Astra. No opponent has been named for the event that will take place at the Nippon Budokan hall in Tokyo, Japan.
  • Cesar Gracie has said he could have Jose Canseco ready to fight Herschel Walker in three months and that he has been talking to Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker about making it happen. A fight like this would just tarnish the sport, provide no value and open up MMA for relentless ridicule. It is bad enough that there are NBA players (Shaq) looking to join MMA once their career in basketball is over but this fight would be a major mistake if it were to happen.
  • And finally, MMA nutball Junie Browning lost to Aaron Hall when Browning’s corner stopped the fight at Junie’s request. Browning came in heavy and refused to cut weight while Hall refused to accept part of Browning’s purse. Promoters were able to work things out so the fight could proceed but Browning suffered a low blow and complained of eye pokes in the first round before bowing out of the fight.
  • As always I am Jerry Wiseman…and then the cage door closes.
